IELTS Writing Task 2 Band Score 8 : Advantages and disadvantages of eating fast food

Advantages and disadvantages of eating fast food

There is no denying the fact that consuming fast food prevails among a large number of people both in developing and developed societies. Eating fast food namely hamburgers, pizzas or fried chickens, normally sold in quick-service restaurants where sit-down, takeout, and drive-thru options are available, has not only downside but also upside and this essay will discuss both.

With regard to minus points, there are a countless number of them, the most noticeable of which could be obesity. Fast food contains a great deal of fat, additives, and salt that are detrimental to health, so feeding yourself on high-calorie fast food puts your life in danger as it makes you gain weight gradually. Coming down with cardiovascular disease and suffering from high blood pressure might be the other demerits of following such an unhealthy diet. According to a survey conducted by American Heart Association, fast food lovers’ medical costs are three times as much as those who refrain from burgers, high in unsaturated fat.

Nonetheless, unlike home-made dishes, fast food can be prepared and served much more quickly, which is a big advantage for a plethora of individuals who can neither spare time to cook nor spend time in traditional restaurants. An illustration of this is most working mothers as well as private firm employees who opt to order fast food at least three times a week, which apparently saves them time. Moreover, fast food is delicious and economical that is why it suits an array of different tastes and budgets.

All things considered, I personally contend that were it not for fast food, people could experience a more healthy and fit lifestyle.
